How to Hear God

Schuyler Williamson - Leadership Shepherd

1. There are both written and spoken Words of God.

Your word is a lamp. – Psalm 119:105

You can hear God most when reading the Bible.

Whoever believes in God listens gladly to the words of God.  – John 8:47

Our hearts will burn as we read and hear the Word. – Luke 24:32

God wants our hearts, not our minds. We need to be spirit-led (lead with our hearts), not flesh-led. We must strive to align our thoughts with our heart – where God dwells.

2. We need to allow The Holy Spirit into our hearts.

The job of the Holy Spirit is to guide us to the truth.

The Holy Spirit will declare what we are to become. – John 16:13

The voice of the Holy Spirit is soft and peaceful. It is still and small. It is just enough to persuade. Don’t ignore the whispers. Let it bring conviction within you. Be still and stop talking so you can hear the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to you.

3. Go talk to Him.

We are to call to Him. He will answer us. He wants a relationship with us. We need to position ourselves to receive Him. We must seek His will to be done. We can do nothing entirely on our own.

God is so unbelievably far ahead of us. We need to desire His will to be done. We need to be clear about our posture with God. Go receive His word!
